Digital Hub Logistics

The Digital Hub Logistics in Dortmund drives the digitization of the logistics industry in Germany and strengthens the grown and dynamic ecosystem of digital logistics in the Ruhr region. Thus, the hub offers a highly exciting environment to companies that want to bring high-potential new digital products to the market.

The Digital Hub Logistics acts as the center for new formats of cooperation between business and science in the field of logistics and IT and forms the link around the participating organizations of the innovation ecosystem logistics and IT at the Dortmund location around the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML, the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering ISST, the Digital Hub Logistics e. V. and its corporate members as well as the Technical University of Dortmund and other stakeholders such as the City of Dortmund or the TechnologieZentrumDortmund.

At the Digital Hub Logistics, innovation experts accompany and advise digital teams of SMEs in setting up digital business. The unique innovation concept of the Start-in Factory is a new approach to lead digital transformation processes in established companies to success more quickly – whether it is the digitization of products, the development of digital business models or the scouting of strategic partners.

The Start-in Factory in the Digital Hub Logistics supports companies in their digital transformation with three services: “Process” (innovation support), “Place” (coworking spaces) and “Community” (networking/exchange). With the Start-in Factory, the hub not only targets logistics companies, but also supports companies from other industries in their digital transformation.

In 2017, the Digital Hub Logistics launched the Digital Logistics Award, now the most prestigious award in the startup scene, and runs it annually. The most exciting applicants find their way into the Hub’s network.

The Hub’s sponsors are the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML and the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering ISST, as well as the Technical University of Dortmund. EffizienzCluster Management GmbH operates the hub. Duisburger Hafen AG supports it as a support partner.

The Digital Hub Logistics originates from an initiative of the digital association Bitkom and is part of the Digital Hub Initiative (de:hub) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) with a total of 12 hubs.
