Excellent research

Leistungszentrum Logistik und IT

The Leistungszentrum Logistik und IT, one of 17 performance centers of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Germany, bundles science and research in the competence field of logistics and IT at the Dortmund location. The center strengthens networking within the scientific community. It stands for excellent research – with the development and application of the latest technologies, from science for business.

Under the umbrella of the Leistungszentrum Logistik und IT, scientific institutions are working together that – each in its own right – have been shaping and advancing logistics research for a long time. In the Leistungszentrum, they are now not only working together, but synergistically building a national infrastructure and an open innovation ecosystem – from basic to applied research, together with industry.

Interdisciplinary and cross-institutional research groups are driving forward the future topics of logistics and information logistics.

Their projects are based on a research map, one of the central overarching projects of the performance center. The research map links trend topics and application areas of logistics at the site with each other, so that research priorities and potentials can be seen at a glance.

As part of the funding, the Leistungszentrum has launched many visionary topics and ground-breaking interdisciplinary projects. The research achievements and results are used directly in the participating institutions – whether in teaching, in doctoral theses and student research projects, or in the context of contract research, including in the associated Enterprise Labs. This has created a constant and direct transfer flow from research to teaching and application.

The Leistungszentrum Logistik und IT is supported by the Fraunhofer Institutes for Material Flow and Logistics IML and for Software and Systems Engineering ISST, the TU Dortmund University and the IfADo Leibniz Institute for Human Factors Research at the TU Dortmund University, and is funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
